Happenings

Starting to work on plans for our Christmas event for 2014.

Having a big raffle (details to follow shortly)

Will still be having an event in the Columbian Building on the Oakland square.
         Binga
         Vendors
         Christmas Wreaths
Tour of the Rutherford Home decked out in vintage Victorian Chrismas.
         Food
And much, much more.

Other happenings going on is the "Lincoln's Trial and Tribulations event.  The first showing was held on July 26th.  Several visitors toured the house and then ventured over to the Columbian Building in the pouring rain to enjoy their meal.  The play was moved to the same building so the guests didn't have to brave the weather.

Tomorrow, August 16th, is the second presentation.  So the Rutherford Home will be open for guest again from 5 to 6 ahead of the meal and presentation.

The last and final presentation will be held on September 19th.  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lincolns-Trial-Tribulations/93746842705

Old Fashioned Christmas Event

Shew it's over AND it was a huge success.  A few months ago the Landmarks board had a meeting and invited some of Dr. Rutherfords descendants to attend.  Elisha Farmer and Andy Houk are great great great grandchildren of Dr. Hiram Rutherford.  We were very short on funds to keep the museum open.  It was decided that since there was only enough money to keep the lights on until the end of December that we would need to have a very large fundraiser.  Elisha and her husband Brad organized, planned and put into action this "Old Fashioned Christmas" event.  Through this event we estimate over $8000 was raised.  We also have received some generous donations from our regular supporters.  All in all this event plus the generous donations has put us back on firm ground.

Thank you seems so inadequate but I'll say it anyway.  THANK YOU to each and every one who helped plan, set up, tear down, attend/participate, donate, advertise or anything else I can't think of right now.  Thank you.

Below are some pictures I took the day of the event.  Enjoy.
The Dr Hiram Rutherford Home
The Columbian building is owned by the City of Oakland and used as a community center.  It is adjacent to the historical complex so it is the perfect place to house the vendors and BINGA event.
Pictures from the set up in the Columbian Building.

Picture area.  This old sleigh was a gift from the Rutherford family.  It was owned by Wilson Rutherford and was in the third story of an old barn that was going to be torn down.  What a perfect backdrop for pictures.

Inside the Rutherford Home.  Decorations were in place to make a Victorian era Christmas feel inside the home.

The old Penn Central Depot was also open for guests.  We actually had a former rail road conductor in there just talking about the rail road.  I heard he had lots of stories and that they were very interesting.

And then the guest started arriving.  Shopping, playing Binga, eating lunch or just plain visiting with friends and enjoying the atmosphere.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for anything that was done to help out this wonderful event.

See you next year.

Old car cruise comes to visit

We got a call a few weeks ago about an old car cruise that was going to be cruising through Oakland.  They wanted to stop and visit at the Dr's house.  So on Saturday, October 26th we had several pretty cool looking cars drive in and park out by the highway.  The owners, from the Decatur area, toured the grounds.  It was a really fun morning visiting with the guests but also getting to stroll through the cars to take a look.

 These two were Clayton's favorites.

And these were the winners according to Braden.

An here we are waiving good bye as they were heading west for lunch.
